- American Association for
the Advancement of Science's Science and Human Rights Program includes AAAS
Human Rights Action Network Alerts (case reports, searchable by country,
keyword, etc.) Try keywords "women," "female," "girl," "gender," etc. Also on the site: a list of links to
Science and Human Rights Program projects. Site also links to the human rights information search engine HURISEARCH.
- American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
page includes sections for Women's
Rights, Lesbian and
Gay Rights, Immigrant
Rights, and other categories.
- Amnesty International
USA Women's Human Rights page links to news reports and releases, Amnesty
International work on women's issues, and links to related sites.
- Bending
the Bow: Targeting Women's Human Rights and Opportunities (2002) is a
book-length report from the Open Society Institute focusing on women in the
countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
- Captive Daughters organization
dedicated to ending sex trafficking of girls.
- Center for Human
Rights and Humanitarian Law, Washington College of Law, American University,
publishes Human
Rights Brief. Search the articles by keywords "women," "gender,"
etc.
- Center for Reproductive Law
& Policy International Program advocates for reproductive rights as human
rights for women everywhere. Site includes a search
by region and country.
- Coalition Against Trafficking
in Women site includes fact sheets, survivor testimony, articles, and
more, covering all aspects of sexual exploitation throughout the world. Topics
include prostitution, sex tourism, and the selling of mail order brides. The
Coalition is an advocacy network promoting legislation and enforcement of
anti-trafficking laws. Recent articles discuss the health consequences for
women and girls trapped in sex trafficking, including their high susceptibility
to HIV/AIDS.
- Dr. Homa Darabi Foundation is concerned
with human rights violations, particularly religious,cultural and social abuse.
- Equipo Nizkor collects
information and documents about human rights in Latin America. Searchable
database in English ("women," etc.) or Spanish ("mujeres,Quot; etc.) See also
Derechos, the "first Internet-based
human rights organization," whose 6,000 page site has a searchable index.
- End Violence Against Women Information
and Resources from Johns Hopkins University's Population Information Program.
Site is searchable.
Topics include domestic violence, rape, FGM, impact of war on violence against
women, prostitution and violence, child sex abuse, etc.
- Female Genital Mutilation Education
and Networking Project
- Gender, Migration & Citizenship
Project of the Centre for Feminist
Research, York University (Canada). Site includes several bibliographies.
- Global Alliance Against Traffic in
Women, based in Thailand, enhances coordination of national and global
actions against the traffic in women. Site includes an E-Bulletin and The Alliance News.
- Human Rights Watch site is searchable
(search for "women," "gender," etc.) There is a
Women's Rights Division and a "women's rights" topical category.
- International Alliance
for Women, founded in 1902, advocates for full and equal rights for women,
through passage of CEDAW and other measures.
- International Centre for Human Rights and
Democratic Development has a Women's
Rights Programme. To read some of the articles and other documents from
the Centre, either scroll to the bottom of the Women's Rights Programme page and click on "click here," select a language from the Centre's homepage, then click on "publications" on the left , then check "women's rights." When the
search result is returned, scroll down and click on any of the
links to go to further description; or, when the item itself is free, the
link will go to the actual item in fulltext.
- International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights
Commission addresses human rights violations against sexual minorities.
- International Jewish Women's Human
Rights in marriage, divorce, and family law page describes a project of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.
- The International Labour Organization
has many useful documents and databases primarily linked from ILO's
Gender Equality Tool, including description of the ILO's International
Programme for More and Better Jobs for Women and Men and e.quality@work,
an "information base on equal employment opportunities for men and women.
The ILO maintains LABORDOC, a massive
multi-lingual database with citations (and links to those available in fulltext)
both to all 40,000+ documents published by the ILO from 1965 to the present
(and a selection of several thousand from earlier dates) and to over 350,000
articles and other publications from other sources. To find information on
women workers, use the subject heading "woman worker." To restrict
search to publications of the ILO, use guided search and the phrase "ILO
pub" in one of the search boxes. Women workers, employment, labor relations,
labor law, working conditions, vocational training, social security, occupational
safety and health, child labour, migrant workers, economic and social rights,
and labor-related aspects of economic and social development are all covered
in LABORDOC. Another ILO product is NATLEX,
a worldwide database of national laws on labor, social security, and human
rights issues. NOTE: LABORDOC and NATLEX format subject headings without
apostrophes. Use "womens empowerment," "womens organization,"
and womens rights" without apostrophes. Other women-related subject headings:
"woman manager," "woman worker," "women," "women
in development," "gender planning," "girl," "female
headed household," "female occupation,"and "rural women."
It is also possible to search the databases using French, Spanish, and German
equivalents for search terms.
- International Organization for Migration
works on ways to support the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits
migrants and society. The site includes reports on combatting trafficking
in women.
- International Women's Health Coalition
is a nonprofit organization based in New York City that works to "promote
and protect the rights and health of girls and women worldwide, particularly
in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and countries in postsocialist transition."
- MADRE: An International Women's Human Rights
Organization headquartered in New York City does training and advocacy
in partnership with women's community-based organizations.
- Peace, Conflicts and International Women's Human Rights

- People's Movement for Human Rights
Education site includes a section on women's
human rights and puts specific issues into a human rights category. Ex:
women, human
rights, and poverty.
- Physicians for Human Rights "mobilizes
the health professions and enlists support from the general public to protect
and promote the human rights of all people." Site can be searched for "women," "gender," etc., and there's a PHR report Women's Health and Human Rights -- Afghanistan (2002).
- TheUNHCR (UN Refugee
Agency) site has search features. Use the Quick Find drop-down menu
and select "women."
- Refugees International site can be searched for "women" or "gender."
- The Women's Commission for
Refugee Women and Children
- Sex Politics: Reports from the Front Lines, ed. by Richard Parker, Rosalind Petchesky, and Robert Sember for Sexuality Politics Watch is based on research
conducted between 2004 and 2007 on sexuality rights and politics in Brazil, Egypt, India, Peru, Poland,
South Africa, Turkey, Vietnam, the United Nations and the World Bank.
- Soros Foundation Women's
Program works on women's issues in formerly Communist Eastern and Central
European countries. Included on the site is a book-length report: Bending the Bow: Targeting Women's Human Rights and Opportunities See

in Women page.
- SOS Sexism is an organization
based in France fighting discrimination against women.
- UNESCO site on "Gender Equality and Development" stresses women's human rights.
- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights site has a "women" category.
- United States
Dept. of State's "Office of International
Women's Issues"
- US Women Connect seeks to link women
and girls in the U.S. working for women's rights with activists elsewhere.
- Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice
(formerly Women's Caucus for Gender Justice) is an organization of individuals
and groups committed to strenthening advocacy for women's human rights and
helping to develop more use of the International Criminal Court and other
justice system mechanisms.
- Women's Global Network for Reproductive
Rights is based in Amsterdam. Site includes a newsletter.
- Women's Learning Partnership for Rights, Development and Peace
(WLP) WLP helps women, especially from the South gain skills to become
leaders in advocating for women's human rights, sustainable development, and
peace.
- Women's Rights Action Network
Australia works on human rights issues for Australian women.
- Women's Rights
Are Human Rights is a chapter in State
of the World Population 2000, published by the UN Population Fund. The 2002 report included a chapter on
Women and Gender
Inequality.
2003 report is also available, including a chapter on Gender Inequality and Reproductive Health. The 2004 Report included a chapter on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment; the 2006 report is on "Women and International Migration."
